The Boy Scout motto is “Be Prepared” and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints encourages its members to be prepared as well. With the downturn in the economy, recent natural disasters and unemployment at record rates in many parts of the United States, that advice can be the difference in a family staying self-reliant in an emergency.
The Church outlines a three-part plan for families to prepare for all types of emergencies. This plan includes family home storage, a financial plan and an emergency plan.

I am not a Mormon but I am intrigued by their preoccupation with downside planning. In order to make the thesis of economic collapse inherent in 2020 Hindsight a reality, with some chance of recovery, there had to be pockets of stability across a great nation struggling to rebound from self inflicted disaster. These self sustaining bridges to both the past and the future needed to be anchored in a credible organization that had a contingency plan in place to deal with extreme adversity. The fact, that the LDS Church has such a plan, as well as an historical location proven to be a fortress against adversity provides a credible background and a viable player in the near future, should current trends continue in the extreme.
